Childhood Vaccinations

Vaccinations are one of the most important steps you can take to protect your child from serious infectious diseases. Our paediatric vaccination service follows the South African Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI-SA) schedule and also offers additional recommended vaccines not included in the public programme. Dr Nel ensures your child receives each vaccine at the correct age, answers your questions about vaccine safety, and maintains accurate immunisation records.

How It Works

1

Review & Planning

Bring your child's Road to Health Booklet. Dr Nel reviews the vaccination history and identifies any outstanding or additional vaccines.

2

Informed Consent

Each vaccine is explained, including benefits, possible side effects, and any contraindications. Your questions are answered before proceeding.

3

Vaccination

Vaccines are administered gently in a child-friendly environment. Our team uses distraction techniques to minimise distress for younger children.

4

Post-Vaccination Care

Your child is observed for 15 minutes. You receive aftercare advice, including managing mild side effects like fever or injection site soreness, and the next vaccination date is scheduled.

The EPI-SA schedule vaccines are available free of charge at public health facilities. In our private practice, vaccines are charged but are typically covered by your medical aid under day-to-day or childhood benefits. We also offer additional vaccines not on the EPI programme.
Yes. All vaccines used in South Africa are approved by SAHPRA and undergo stringent safety testing. The benefits of vaccination far outweigh the minimal risks. Dr Nel is happy to address any specific concerns you may have.
Absolutely. We develop individualised catch-up schedules for children who have missed or delayed vaccinations. It is never too late to get back on track with your child's immunisations.
